The Holocaust was an unprecedented crimea crime composed of millions of murders, wrongful imprisonments, and tortures, of rape, theft, and destruction. In the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust, the world was faced with a challengehow to seek justice for an almost unimaginable scale of criminal behavior.
This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The commemoration of this anniversary coincides with continuing human rights abuses and genocide occurring in our world today, as well as efforts to prosecute these crimes in courts of law.
What is justice?
What kind of justice is possible after genocide? Who is responsible for these crimes -- political or military leaders? Members of the clergy? Journalists? Bystanders? Is it ever too late to seek justice?

Maybe then the world would have even the smallest amount of peace added to it. People claim it wasn't genocide- they were most certainly wrong. No one should ever be separated or killed because of their race or beliefs. | Name: Rose January 15, 2008 12:06 PM | Location: Message: The people responsible for the genocide should never be allowed to get away for their crimes. They should be punished for the horro that they placed on the Jews. The should be sentenced to death and feel the pain that they caused | Name: ivana January 04, 2008 03:16 PM | Location: Message: time is in a way an ennemy of the justice - witnesses die, and it becomes much harder if not impossible to prove certain things that took place. justice is a cruel tool, and does not bring satisfaction to the victims as we might think. victims are often left with nothing, a big emptiness. they have to deal with the past, to live on, while life itself is dead in them. they want to see the perpetrators prosecuted, they need a guarantee of non recurrence, they need to feel safe. we can do that by educating everyone thouroughly and systematically about the genocide and its consequences. | Name: Pink and The Brain January 04, 2008 11:45 AM | Location: Message: I believe that it is too late to seek justice for those who have already died. But there can still be justice for the surivors. | Name: Bill December 31, 2007 10:25 PM | Location: Message: No I think it's never to late to prosecute those responsible for the unimaginable genocide, time does not erase the crimes that were commited against humanity by there criminals, it's hard to even imagine how a race of people could turn into something worse than an animal, an animal would never do such a thing as these nazi butchers!!!! | Name: Michael Richman December 30, 2007 05:07 PM | Location: Message: I do not belive such behavior exists today. Justice possible for genocide would be lifetime in prision | Name: Michael December 30, 2007 04:48 PM | Location: Message: I think that justice would stop genocide from happening. the holocaust was a terrible time in jewish history. Prejudice is caused by fear. For example Hitler was afraid of the jewish people because they were different from him and the Natzis. I can't believe that genocide is happening even today. Genocide is very stupid but serious. I think the Justice system around the world shoud improve. You know if people stoped fearing the world would be a better place for everyone. | Name: Megan December 26, 2007 04:37 PM | Location: Message: People need to know that at any moment the same thing could happen to them and that if we dont be careful it could happen again. | Name: Britty. December 20, 2007 11:50 AM | Location: Message: justice is the truth people should know right from wrong. it should be given to everyone not just a coouple people. |
