The Nuremberg Trials and Their Legacy

The Holocaust was an unprecedented crime—a crime composed of millions of murders, wrongful imprisonments, and tortures, of rape, theft, and destruction. In the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust, the world was faced with a challenge—how to seek justice for an almost unimaginable scale of criminal behavior.

This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The commemoration of this anniversary coincides with continuing human rights abuses and genocide occurring in our world today, as well as efforts to prosecute these crimes in courts of law.

What is justice?

What kind of justice is possible after genocide? Who is responsible for these crimes -- political or military leaders? Members of the clergy? Journalists? Bystanders? Is it ever too late to seek justice?

It is never too late to seek justice. True, I don't believe the people responsible for the Holocaust can ever truly be punished enough. But I DO believe those murdered and killed in the Holocaust would want all of us to try and seek justice.

It's never to late to seek justice. I look at this holocaust muesm as justice to the people who passed and the survivers. The events that happened are very bad but i think its important to let people know. In 7th grade were doing an unit on it and i got the privledge to come here for my research project. i would like people to know what actually happened and what we have learned from it.

People who have died, cannot seek justice. But for the people who are still living, I think that they should all seek justice. We should all live freely and equally. We are made in God's image and in that image we are equal.

i think that jsutice is something that should be given to everyone by chance! Aafter the genocide i think there is no justice left to be given.... I think that is always late to give jsutice and you should always try to get justice but sometimes it gets to late when you are trying to get justice!

The people responsible for the genocide should never be allowed to get away for their crimes. They should be punished for the horro that they placed on the Jews. The should be sentenced to death and feel the pain that they caused time is in a way an ennemy of the justice - witnesses die, and it becomes much harder if not impossible to prove certain things that took place. justice is a cruel tool, and does not bring satisfaction to the victims as we might think. victims are often leftI believe that it is too late to seek justice for those who have already died. But there can still be justice for the surivors. with nothing, a big emptiness. they have to deal with the past, to live on, while life itself is dead in them. they want to see the perpetrators prosecuted, they need a guarantee of non recurrence, they need to feel safe. we can do that by educating everyone thouroughly and systematically about the genocide and its consequences.

I dont think it is ever to late to try and seek justice for atrocities -- those ocurring today or those that occurred in the past. The quest for justice should not sbe set aside just because time passes. Is there a statute of limitations on war crimes?

I think that the people who did the bad things during the holocoust should be held responsible. There is only one person in the entire issue that deserved to die and that was Hilter. The Jews did absoloutley nothing wrong, and why they got punished was because of one person having too much evil inside of him, and having had to many lies told about the Jews.

i think that the people that did the things that they did the should be forgiven but only if they ask for it. no one deserves to be acused of something if they ask for forgiveness
