The Nuremberg Trials and Their Legacy

The Holocaust was an unprecedented crime—a crime composed of millions of murders, wrongful imprisonments, and tortures, of rape, theft, and destruction. In the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust, the world was faced with a challenge—how to seek justice for an almost unimaginable scale of criminal behavior.

This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The commemoration of this anniversary coincides with continuing human rights abuses and genocide occurring in our world today, as well as efforts to prosecute these crimes in courts of law.

What is justice?

What kind of justice is possible after genocide? Who is responsible for these crimes -- political or military leaders? Members of the clergy? Journalists? Bystanders? Is it ever too late to seek justice?

The murderers should have been jailed; tracked down and jailed, then all the Jews should have been returned to their homes, their families and their lives. The Holocaust was a horrible time.

I think it was the most horrible event in history. the thought is terrible seeing wemen men and childeren treated this way because they were different.Thats not right. I wish people could have done something for justice. Then the people who participated in that event should have the same treatment that they gave the Jews.I dont know why he did it I dont care but if it happens again JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!

I think that these people who did this to the Jews need to be punished. They need to realize that every one is equal in this world. The Bible even says so!

It's never to late to seek justice. I promise you that. Everyone who started and followed this horrible Holocaust are to blame. If they did not do anything to stop it, they kept it going. I truly believe they is never too much punishment for someting like this. Nothing is too much punishment as far as this goes. God did create monsters, he created people and that is how we should act. Jews never did anyting to you! Why punish them for something they believe in? Death is not a good enough punishment for them. Torture them until they die.
Get Justice. Always.

Sadly, justice is not achievable after an act of genocide like the Holocaust. The Nazi leaders in the German government had invested all of their efforts into an attempt at world domination, which luckily was a vain effort. After losing World War 2, the Nazi leaders were throughly defeated. Their army was defeated, they were surrounded by their enemies, their economy was destroyed, and many of the top leaders, Hitler included, were dead. The Nuremberg trials were more of an attempt to ensure that the new German government would be protected from the influence of remaining Nazi leaders than an attempt to give closure to those affected by war crimes and genocide. There is no way to seek adequate retribution for the lost of life for their is no way to give it back. The only true justice would be to return the people destroyed to life.
