The Holocaust was an unprecedented crimea crime composed of millions of murders, wrongful imprisonments, and tortures, of rape, theft, and destruction. In the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust, the world was faced with a challengehow to seek justice for an almost unimaginable scale of criminal behavior.
This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. The commemoration of this anniversary coincides with continuing human rights abuses and genocide occurring in our world today, as well as efforts to prosecute these crimes in courts of law.
What is justice?
What kind of justice is possible after genocide? Who is responsible for these crimes -- political or military leaders? Members of the clergy? Journalists? Bystanders? Is it ever too late to seek justice?

Name: ChristinH February 23, 2009 07:33 PM | Location: Colorado Message: There is no justice really ro genocide. I think it was good though that some of these leaders and those involved were sentenced to death. A punishment they truly deserve. It is never too late to seek justice, although most involved have to live with the guilt the rest of their lives. It is justice enough especially if you believe in an after life. | Name: gerard connaughton December 19, 2008 01:17 AM | Location: ireland Message: people will only do wrong if no1,they believe that what they are doing is right,no 2,have a just cause for what they are doing,no 3,society will allow this to happen as everyone needs and wants the feeling of being in control. this can only exist when the law fails and the person or people believes that there is a big chance that they will not be punshed for there actions. They deep down inside believe they will get away with it. its easy to make the law the enemy, same old thing, why does the person who killed or robbed someone get an easier time than person who throws a paper on the street. its never to late to seek justice. | Name: Taylor December 16, 2008 09:32 AM | Location: copenhagen New York Message: wow...... and to think that there are actually people who deny that this ever happened ..... when ther is proof right in fornt of our eyes. These trials should be a constant reminder that this event really did happen and that there is not way that the trials would have ever happened if there was not a mass murder to 6 million jews and other religions | Name: bridget September 19, 2008 09:00 AM | Location: san angelo texas Message: it is such a tragedy to have heard and read about what happened to all the jews. In a sense it shows future generations how hateful one race can be to another race. I pray that younger generations learn from their mistakes and treat everybody humanly equally. No i dont feel it is too late for whoever was responsible to be punished for their hate crime they committed so many years ago. it is not fair that the people responsible got to live their lives and grow old when the took so many other peoples lives away. | Name: Guy Gladu June 01, 2008 09:08 PM | Location: Canada Message: I've always been fascinated by the enormity of crimes committed in the name of a nation. I'm glad I can read more on this subject thanks mostly to the american universities and their publications. | Name: Taylor Keliihoomalu April 27, 2008 04:34 PM | Location: Message: Justice is something like freedom. Justice after genoside is possible by trying to relive it and always think positive. Also you could belive you can make it through. Political is responcible for this because they let this happen. ALSO POLITICIANS SHOULD SAY what is right and what is wrong and others shoould listen. No it is never to late to seek justice. No matter what always think justice because it is the right thing to do and if you think negative you might not make it through. Also when things get bad think justice because it means you believe that you can make it and you believe in yourself. | Name: Marissa April 26, 2008 11:34 AM | Location: Message: I think that both militarty leaders and politial leaders were responsible for these crimes. Not all politial leaders were responsilbe, but many were. Persobnally, I think that it was our fault as well because for the longest time we did nothing. It is never too late to seek justice because the past is what will haunt the murders and us, forever. | Name: moa April 21, 2008 12:01 PM | Location: Message: i think justice can happen if we unify | Name: winston April 17, 2008 12:05 PM | Location: Message: We cannot reverse what has been done only punish or reward it. | Name: Brynna April 16, 2008 04:37 PM | Location: Message: I think that any kid of justice could happen. you can just make sure tat the people in the event are safe for one thing. as soon as genocide ends the better. just because someone looks different doesnt mean that they're any less of a person. EQUALITY!!! i think that in the long run, the "bad guys" will get whats coming to them. |
