i am so sorry. there just aren't any words that can express the sadness i feel for the family and loved ones of mr. johns. What a wonderful place he was protecting. I trust there will be a special place in Heaven for those such as Officer Johns. His sacrifice saved many lives that day. He is just as much a hero as those who helped save Jewish lives by hiding them from the Nazi butchers. His example will live on and will inspire all Americans for generations to come. I just visited the museum for the second time and I saw the memorial plaque for Officer Johns. I remember that when I heard of the incident there, I remembered that Daniel's Story was on the first floor and how popular that was for schoolchildren. His dedication to the protection of the museum's guests kept so many people unharmed that day. My heart goes out to his family. He was just doing his job and he never came home. I am sorry for your loss and I know from personal experience that mourning is not quick. Mourn in your own way, on your own timeline. Just know that we haven't forgotten. peace be with you. |

I was outside the museum the day of the shooting. I always avoided the museum since I never could understand how something like the Holocaust could occur. Yesterday, a co-worker and I decided to go. Although I was well aware that I would be sadly moved by what I saw, it touched me deeply. We can never forget history or else it WILL repeat itself.
May Officer Johns rest in peace. He lost his life but we may never know exactly how many people he saved that day from the hate that still festers in others. |
