I am an English teacher at Dodd Middle Scool in Freeport, NY. Our 8th grade curriculum includes studying WWII and reading The Diary of A Young Girl: Anne Frank and Night by Elie Wiesel, as well as many other related stories. To "Never Forget," my students, who are primarlily Latino and African American, and I lit a Yom HaShoah yellow remembrance candle and recited the Mourner's Kaddish in class. We have been sharing excerpts from many books and articles about the Holocaust all week. I am also fortunate to be going to the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove for a workshop entitled, "The Myth of 'Never Again': Genocides from 1904-2009" in two weeks. |

I am a first generation U.S. citizen, my father
being the only survivor of the Holocaust in Poland.
I think of the aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and
cousins who were brutally exterminated in Poland
in the early 1940's.
My Father-yechezkel Schrager Hormann- emigrated
to New York in 1934, after my mother returned to Poland as a U.S. Citizen and was married to my father in 1933.
I try to imagine how my father learned of the destruction of his family and the difficulty of
living with this knowledge and not exposing his three children to these horrible facts. My Father
died at the age of 49, but i remember him as a cheerful , giving, loving Dad. May his memory and
the memory of all the perished live on in the memories and lives of the living. |

Throughout my life, the remembrance of the Holocaust has always been a part of it. Both my Parents were Holocaust survivors who immigrated to the United
States of America to live in a free nation.
I will commemorate their memory,as well as all of my lost relatives by thanking G-D that I now live in a free nation and I can write the words ------- We SHALL NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I will visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum this weekend and light a candle in the Hall of Remembrance. I'll continue to read fiction and non-fiction books and articles on all aspects of the Holocaust. Yesterday, I sent an email to a few friends and my father about Jewish resistance during the Holocaust. |

Our little Pedee Evangelical Church (attendance: 35) in this logging town in the Coast Range has an informative display about the Holocaust for Holocaust Days of Remembrance April 19-26. We've also provided books from the local library for members to read, as we actually had a few people say, "What is the Holocaust." We must continue to remind people! |

Today my sophomore students completed decorating the central display case in the high school for Holocaust Remembrance Day. Then they visited every classroom in the school to let students know about the reason for the commemoration and they passed out felt yellow stars they had cut out and pinned to safety pins. They invited their fellow students to join them in wearing the stars during the day to show their support for tolerance everywhere.
I will always remember how many students wore yellow stars today - we didn't have enough for everyone! I am proud to see young people stand together to say "Never Again." |

I didn't know that this was a day of rememberance for the Holocaust survivors. I turned my tv to wtvi, public broadcast. I will keep the survivors in my prayers as I have done in the past. I will continue to research online and read books about the surviviors. They are truly a blessing to the world. If it were not for them, how would we know what happened? We know how to hate violence, senseless killings, and torturing of innocent people through them. I will think of the innocent lives of the Sudanese people who are inslaved, raped, and murdered even today as I remember the Holocaust. Our thoughts and prayers to such precious and loving people. We thank God for. |
